Gothic Gardens

Well as haunters we spend the warm months planning our October display and building all the new props we want to put in it. Where out cruising garage sales to find interesting items to put in our haunt or clothes to put on our latest dummy. Well here is another idea that you might want to think about to not only keep you in the haunted mood but add some more interest to your yard. I am talking about a gothic garden!

A gothic garden can be as simple as small window box display or take up most of your back yard. An while you may not get two people to agree on what a gothic garden should look like, most will agree that the choice of plants that are different from a normal garden and accessories which have a gothic or Victorian appeal. If you do a google search of gothic garden you will come up with many sites that have lots of information on different gothic garden ideas. For instance this site

http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/discoverthis/gothic-garden-instructions.pdf has instruction on how to make a table top witches gothic garden. Of course if you just want to buy everything all together you can go to: http://www.livesciencestore.com/56811.html Then there is: http://www.widdershins.org/vol2iss8/o9704.htm gives you plant ideas for attracting fairies to your yard. Or how about this site: http://www.squidoo.com/GothicGarden which has all sorts of info on black plants.

When it comes to designing a garden for your yard there is a lot of ways you can go from taking a little corner of the yard and putting a gargoyle in the plant bed or maybe a tombstone? To doing your full yard with trellises that lead from one section to another and water features with mist generators to create a creepy mood day and night. Make sure to do a image search too as you are sure to find inspiration in what someone else has done and then take the idea and make it your own. You will find that a gothic garden can be a lot of hard work, but in the end the rewards will out weigh the effort.
